REEL KIWI FISHING – “BIG SNAPPA” mayhem in the far North with Swordfish Steve

Early last month I was invited away to chase big Snaps in the beautiful Doubtless Bay by Steve from Swordfish Marine, Steve looks after our Penn international reels – servicing and repairing.

The plan was to chase some big reds and put some of the new Berkley light jig rods to the test – (Salty Stage / Veritas)

Steve and I enjoy our stray lining and it took awhile for the fish to really came on the bite but over the 3 days, Day1 & Day3 produced some magnificent fish on light gear. Each morning we were on the water at first light catching Mac’s on the way out of the harbour.

Filling up the tank we raced off on our adventure to track down some big reds, putting down our strayline gear once the fish came on the bite we put these noodle like rods fully to the test. What a great trip it turned out to be and it was amazing to see what these light micro jig sets stood up to with the best fish well over 10 kilo’s.

This little movie is to show you not only the fun we had on this light gear but how great these little sets performed.

Tight lines
